Products Description
JOYWIN Organic Inulin is sourced from the root of Jerusalem artichoke. Our raw materials are carefully gathered from specifically organically grown Jerusalem artichoke roots. These artichokes are cultivated under organic farming practices, with no chemically synthesized pesticides or fertilizers used. The collected raw materials are thoroughly washed to get rid of surface impurities, soil, and possible contaminants. After that, some preliminary cutting or crushing might be done for the subsequent extraction process.
We employ a purely physical extraction method, using hot water to extract inulin from Jerusalem artichoke roots. The extracted part is filtered to remove solid residues and other impurities. Then, further purification methods are utilized with special filter membranes to obtain a purer inulin solution. The inulin-containing solution is concentrated through concentration technology to increase the inulin concentration. The final organic inulin product is thus obtained. In some production processes, multiple filtration and purification steps are carried out to ensure the purity and quality of the inulin. Additionally, the entire manufacturing process requires strict control of parameters such as temperature, pressure, and solvent dosage to guarantee that the produced organic inulin meets the relevant quality standards and organic certification requirements.

The physical and chemical properties of inulin
Physical Properties:
Appearance: In its pure state, inulin is typically a fine powder that is white or slightly off-white.
Solubility: It can dissolve in water, creating a somewhat viscous solution. The degree of solubility can change based on factors like temperature and the presence of other substances.
Sweetness level: Inulin has a relatively low sweetness when compared to common sugars.
Chemical Properties:
Carbohydrate structure: It is mainly composed of fructose units linked together.
Prebiotic characteristic: It is not digested by human digestive enzymes but acts as a substrate for beneficial gut microbiota.
Thermal stability: It can endure certain temperatures without significant degradation.
In the food industry, the solubility of inulin is utilized to enhance the texture and mouthfeel of products. Its low sweetness makes it an ideal ingredient for reducing sugar content in various formulations without losing too much sweetness. Moreover, its function as a prebiotic in promoting gut health is a crucial aspect of its chemical functionality.
Characteristic
1. Water Solubility
Inulin is highly water-soluble, with its solubility being significantly dependent on temperature. At 10°C, its solubility is approximately 6%, rising sharply to about 33% at 90°C. Notably, short-chain inulin can achieve solubility levels as high as 50% at elevated temperatures.
2. Sweetness Profile
Inulin possesses a pure, clean sweetness, measuring about 30% to 50% of the sweetness intensity of sucrose. Many find its flavor profile superior, offering a more refreshing taste compared to common table sugar.
3. Viscosity
The viscosity of an inulin solution is directly influenced by its concentration. As the inulin content increases, the viscosity of the solution also rises.
4. Thermal Stability
Inulin exhibits strong thermal stability, making it suitable for various food processing applications that involve heat.
5. Moisture Retention
A key functional property of inulin is its excellent moisture retention capacity. Its strong hygroscopicity allows it to bind free water effectively, thereby reducing water activity. In food processing, this property helps delay moisture evaporation, prevent staling, inhibit microbial growth, and ultimately extend the shelf life of products.
6. Safety
As a functional food ingredient, inulin has been widely adopted in Western countries. Extensive studies conducted on both animals and humans have reported no significant side effects, confirming its safety for consumption.
Products Application
1) As an ingredient in low-fat processed foods:
Inulin has gel properties. When completely mixed with water, it forms a creamy structure that tastes like fat. This makes it an excellent fat substitute. People use water-soluble inulin to replace fat in food, substituting dietary fiber for fat. This doesn't affect the taste of food and can stably improve emulsification and dispersion. It reduces the fat content in food and allows the body to take in an appropriate amount of inulin, ensuring the intake of dietary fiber and prebiotics.
2) Configuring high-fiber diets:
Inulin is a type of dietary fiber. Compared to other dietary fibers like those in cereal products, inulin has good solubility in water, no peculiar smell, and doesn't change the taste of food. So, it's very convenient to use inulin as a dietary fiber ingredient. This allows people to ensure their daily dietary fiber intake during daily eating and drinking, helping the body achieve a more balanced diet.
3) Foods for improving intestinal health:
Inulin can stimulate the proliferation of intestinal bifidobacteria and other beneficial bacteria, increasing their numbers by 5 to 10 times. It increases the vitality of bifidobacteria, inhibits the growth and reproduction of pathogenic bacteria, and maintains a balanced intestinal flora to ensure intestinal activity. Now, inulin has been listed as an important factor for bifidobacteria proliferation.
4) Functional drinks:
Adding 2% to 5% of inulin to yogurt, milk beverages, and liquid milk can ensure product stability and taste while giving the product health care functions. Because inulin has the dual functions of dietary fiber and prebiotics, it can improve intestinal disorders in people with intestinal problems.
5) For bakery products:
Inulin can be used to develop new concept breads, such as prebiotic low-sugar bread and multi-dietary fiber low-sugar bread.
